Chapter 13

If I hated anything more than Sathanus, it was travelling to Wrath itself. Between the fire, the ash, and the horrid screams from humans, I preferred to stay away from the kingdom as much as I could. But I needed to talk to Biast now. This couldn’t wait any longer.

As soon as I stepped out of the portal, the dry and arid air slithered around my throat, nearly suffocating me. Wilted leaves pitifully hung off the brittle trees, falling away when I walked by them toward the Gates to Wrath.

Children with sharp red horns and vexed stares pushed by me as they ran from the kingdom. I stepped off the busy cobblestone walkway and made a beeline for the gates, which separated the fiery kingdom from smaller towns and villages around it.

Two demons with red curved horns and black eyes guarding the entrance stared down at me when I approached them. “Commander of Lust,” one sneered, baring those long jagged teeth at me. “What is a whore like you doing here?”

I crossed my arms over my chest to suppress that growing urge to kill them for their disrespect. Something told me to leave now before any of this could escalate, because once I made it into the kingdom, all kinds of demons would be after me.

“I’m here to see Biast.”

The other demon chuckled menacingly at me. “Biast? What do you want with him?”

Suddenly Biast appeared behind the man, snatched him by the back of his neck—his long red talons threatening to sink into his throat—and pulled him into the air. “The lady said she was here for me, not for your prick-ish remarks,” Biast growled in the demon’s ear.

Dripping in fear so strong that I could sense it, the man worriedly shook his head. “It won’t happen again, Lord Biast. I promise you with my life. It won’t happen again,” he said almost too nervously.

Biast pulled him higher into the air and sneered up at the man. “This is the second time it’s happened,” he seethed at him, his tail slowly curling up the demon’s leg. “And last time you promised your life.”

“Spare me, Biast. I have done nothing wrong. I—”

Before the demon could finish, Biast shot the jagged end of his tail straight through the man’s body and out through the top of his head. My eyes widened, and I stepped back, overcome with both fear and thick, sultry desire.

Biast let the man drop to the ground and retracted his tail, catching the blood on his finger and sucking it into his mouth. “Your arousal doesn’t mix well with the taste of blood, Dani. Be careful,” he said, narrowing his eyes at me. “Any more and you’ll be too tempting to pass up.”

“I need to talk to you. Alone,” I said, crossing my arms and pressing my legs together.

Biast turned to the other demon guarding the door. “Clean him up and don’t tell my father about this,” he said, cracking a cruel smirk and walking toward me. “If you do, your ass is next.
